Keep a daily journal where you will write your plan and your actual food/drink and exercise record.
Don't ignore this journal. Nobody wants to do it, but most people fail! You need to do it anyway, because you want to succeed! Writing it down will make you more aware of what, when and how much you're eating and how much (or little) exercise you typically get. You won't have to do it forever, but make the decision right now that you'll do it for at least 3 months, maybe 6.
